This flavor is the fourth regular Dew flavor to receive an energy drink variant, the first being Baja Blast, the second being Code Red, and the third being Pitch Black.On December 2nd, 2022, on the Dew Drinker Discord, it was leaked that Mountain Dew Energy (Major Melon) would be receiving a limited-time 2023 release showing a release window of March 27th, 2023, thru June 16th, 2023, in a 12-week period with one size such as 16-ounce cans. Both of these flavors at the time were thought to have been canceled. On November 14th, 2022, on a Facebook post, Mountain Dew Energy (Major Melon) and 2020s Strawberry Lemonade with a new name: Kickstart (Strawberry Start-Up), were leaked in a photograph with new and refreshed designs. On September 2nd, 2022, on the Dew Drinker Discord, Mountain Dew Energy (Major Melon) was first leaked as a canceled flavor and presumably replaced by Mountain Dew Energy (Pitch Black). Mountain Dew Energy (Major Melon) is based on the same flavor profile as its original counterpart but has 180 Milligrams of Caffeine which equals approximately 2 Cups of Coffee, 5% Juice, Zero (0 G) added Sugar, Zinc, and Vitamins A&C Antioxidants.
